Western Music

Carnatic Music

Experience:

I have given several solo bay area concerts in Indian classical Carnatic music and have performed in several community events and retirement  homes as a Western pop, hiphop singer.
If my music can bring a smile in a few peoples face there is a feeling of joy in me.
I teach aspiring young kids music and try to give the knowledge which I have learnt back to the community.
I have conducted many art competitions (music and art) for children as part of the FIA community event over the past 4 years.

Community Outreach

As the President of the youth committee of FIA (Federation of Indo Americans) - Fremont CA, I have been involved in a lot
of community events that strive to enrich Indian cultural talent be it, singing, dancing, art, health fairs etc. I have been involved in
the planning and executiion committee of these events that take place through out the year from 2010.The main goal here is to be part of
an organization that  promote diversity and democracy and build bridges between various communities.

I remember growing up as a big Hannah Montana fan. I can definitely say my interest for western songs started after her single " The Best of Both Worlds." As an Indian American, I am proud to represent both of my cultures that make me the person I am today. I have evolved with music, and I spend my free time exploring the different genres of Western music. Starting from pop and all the way to melodies, I try to experiment the capacity of my voice. Western music has inspired me to make my own covers and add a little of "Sandhya" to every song. Bringing my style to every cover I do, makes me feel unique and I learn every time I try something different.

My current project that I am working on involves a fusion of a Hindi and English song. I am very anxious to see the result of this combination, and I hope it creates an impact on both Indians and Americans. My goal is to merge the two cultures of music together, and to make people realize the beauty of the Indian and Western music coming in harmony.

Skills:

I started my musical training as a "South Indian classical singer" at the age of 6 under the tutelage of  of Mrs. Nandini Ramamurthi, a disciple of prominent Guru Neyveli R Santhanagopalan. Around 2007, due to my progression in music, I had the opportunity of pursuing my singing under the tutelage of Guru Ajay Namboodiri and my appreciation and interest for singing had only further improved! Due to my teacher's location in India, I've been learning through Skype for the past 7 years. To me music is a big "stress buster" that takes me into trance and gives me a feeling of absolute joy and fulfillment. Carnatic music help me connect with my Indian heritage.Singing has opened many doors for me, starting from  performing on several platforms, creating my own covers, participating in competitions, and giving multiple concerts. Carnatic music has added a creative aspect to my thinking and has added a new dimension to my personality. There are minute nuances involved in this style of singing, and I have learned to make notated songs on the spot. Carnatic music takes a big part of who I am today, and I am forever thankful to my gurus who have trained me to not only to sing but appreciate music in any form.
